F&T - 6th Feb: 2nd Meeting

• Met with Deryck & Elena (scriptwriter)
• Showed my Pinterest board of research; had a good discussion on what they liked.
• Elena liked my idea; she also really helped in trying to pin what Deryck was maybe hoping to achieve
• Deryck agreed to create a document that would put his vision to paper

Taken from Deryck's document he sent for his vision for the film (but still quite vague in where it's going):

ESSENCE of film

a) the sense of force and inhumanity and fear engendered by such use of force to obtain
information and eek to control other by force.

b) the sense of lack of human dignity when people are treated as information machines.

c) the feeling of fear of having to make that choice the desperate feeling when a loved one is
shot at at time but even more so when one refusal to talk is what precipitated the shooting.

d) and the desperate grief and yet relief and doing what I believed in - rising above death to a
hitherto unknown sense of knowing it was right.

e) feeling of loathing for the executioners yet pity for them in their chains.

f) and the existential sense of relief and strength given to the village ( or whoever) but the act of
bravery).

OTHER FACTORS

• Experimenting without sound
• I do not see the animated version as a “copy of” the people version but feel they could be seen as a related “pair” - perhaps some common look or feel and same “essence” but told quite differently? Does not have to be, and hope it will not simply be, an animated version of the people version.
