Walk Cycle - Hand-Drawn: Basic Walk Cycles

Walk Cycle 1

I drew the extremes for this basic arm-less cycle...
...which the wonderful Carwyn 'in-betweened' for me.

The downside to this cycle I find is my big, fat, heavy lines that I drew which means that when Carwyn's elegantly thin lines were used for the in-betweening, the final walk looks flickery.

I decided to create another basic walk cycle, this time by myself to really get to to grips with how to do it.

(Unfortunately, he does appear to slide back since I didn't quite manage to take all the frames on exactly the same spot.)
His front foot does look like it varies in size since I didn't clean up the drawing.

I then added arms to the same basic walk cycle as I hadn't tried this yet.

(Same slidy problem again, this time even noticeable.)
I like this simple cycle although the front hand doesn't sway as nicely as it does when going forward.

With these first attempts, I found that it really helped to do the most basic version of a walk cycle to get my head round everything that's going on: foot positions, up & down positions, opposite actions between arms and legs, etc. My development would be then to do more interesting and characterful walks.
