Interestingly enough, approaching a walk cycle in Maya could be seen as similar to how you would for hand-drawn since you begin by posing the 'Norman' rig into your extremes and then what follows is a process of refining the down and up positions, making sure the feet don't 'scoop' into the floor.

FK Walk Cycle - Legs only & both
Norman looks like he kicks forward his legs maybe a bit too aggressively for the nature of the walk and there is a slight glitch on the video on the left. I'm content enough though as my first attempt (particularly as it is FK where every joint has to be adjusted).

IK 'Angry' Walk Cycle
I much prefer using IK to create the basics of a pose. He jerks a little too much on his side-to-side movement and his pelvis doesn't rotate at all but I am really pleased with this walk cycle for my second attempt as I feel I have managed to capture an emotion through his movement.
IK 'Weight' Walk Cycle
This was a quick attempt coming back to Maya later on in the project. It's not that great as the box appears not to relate to the Norman rig (I only found out afterwards there is a way to parent objects so that they would be attached). His arm straightening out and his back arching make it look more as if he is trying to pull something up rather than carry. To develop this, I would try parenting the box to the hands and focus more on the relationship between it and Norman.
